Educo was founded by Wim Kronenburg and his brother-in-law Ton van den Berg in 1982. Together they started with the development and production of innovative development materials for preschool education, special needs education, and toy libraries.
In order to be complete with the line of learning materials, Heutink Primary Education included the Educo materials in its product range right from the beginning. This close cooperation between both companies resulted in a takeover of Educo by Heutink in 2001.
Its active product development made Educo grow bigger. In order to meet all applicable export and quality requirements, it was decided to transfer production to China in 2005.
In 2007, Heutink took over Nienhuis (Montessori). Because the Nienhuis head office in Zelhem was better equipped for export and because Educo continued its worldwide growth, Educo's sales and logistics were transferred from Heutink in Rijssen to Nienhuis in Zelhem.
When in 2014 Heutink also took over the company Stempelfabriek & Jegro, it was decided to continue in Zelhem under the company name Heutink International. Nienhuis, Educo, and Jegro are now brands of Heutink International.
